IHA is a research unit hosted by NOVA FCSH and an integrated member of the RIHA network, the International Association of Research Institutes in the History of Art, since 2012. The Institute publishes the Revista de História da Arte, which is indexed on ERIH PLUS and has a SCOPUS submission process in progress. In the last international assessment conducted by FCT (from 2018 to 2019), IHA received the highest rating (Excellent). IHA takes art history as a fundamental and expanded field of knowledge, encompassing visual and material culture and contemporary artistic practices. The Institute fosters collaborative, interdisciplinary and cross-institutional research, also contributing to the Arts and Humanities current debates, namely those informed by societal concerns or committed to the revision of Eurocentric narratives, the impact of gender and decolonial perspectives, the challenges of conservation and curatorial practices, the observation of art markets, criticism, the tensions between art and politics, or the problems faced by urban regeneration and heritage, etc. IHA promotes research on the history of art in Portugal from a global perspective, considering the history of the discipline and the need to rethink artistic production within the European context and in the context of the relationship between Europe and other continents, particularly in the design of (ex-)colonial and power relations.
